"There are so many things to write about
...you know... it branches out...
like a circus with lots of acts!
Lots of performances under one big tent! "
The Banana Bush: Stories Sensing Something Sacred by Patricia Ellyn Powell is a collection of vignettes written as the SYNTHESIS that finishes the masters degree in Ministry from Seattle University. The book relates everyday experiences to scripture. It was published by The Diocese of Alexandria / Shreveport.
Ms. Powell presents old fashioned and authentic French recipes in her cookbook: deBellevue Williams Cochon de Lait. This cookbook celebrates the food that her ancestors enjoyed in Mansura, Louisiana. The annual festival there features roast pig, cooked outdoors in a variety of ways.
Coute le Lu Lu teaches a lesson from one of The Ten Commandments. A young Cajun girl must decide if she can take pecans from a tree that doesn't belong to her. The larger lessons of The Golden Rule loom over the pages of this artful teaching. I hope readers of all ages will enjoy this, my first children's book.
First Light is first anthology published by the Writer's Guild of Central Louisiana (Ms. Powell is a past president.) The anthology contains poetry and a short story by Patricia.
GOODBYE CANDY GOLD is a first published novel for Patricia Ellyn Powell. Though fiction, it tells a story that chronicles treatment in a real gambling rehabilitation program. Set in New Orleans at the fictional Lampe du Lac, the light romance treats the very real issue of problem gambling in Louisiana. (Any state with gambling has the same issues!) The book would make the perfect gift for anyone who likes a casino, or anyone who wishes there was no casino! Either way, it is for everyone!
Looking at the apple from every possible angle, Patricia Ellyn Powell has created a book that masquerades as an analysis of the American education system, but in actuality, explores the living problems that all of us face in this new millennium.
Filled with humor and common sense, this new genre of "faction" stuns the reader with real-life accounts from down in the trenches of education. Powell sounds the alarm for the current crisis of the national teacher shortage, insisting that the public school system in this country is now defunct.
Professor Powell's apocalyptic account reaches into the ordinary to extract the phenomenal. Her ability to facilitate logos, pathos, and ethos in everything from race relations to Ronald McDonald is uncanny.
If raw and refined can exist together, here in Rotten Apples, they do. Her love of education allows her to take no hostages... and polish no apples!
Poetry Dedicated to the men who work the coal mines and the people who love them...

Patricia Ellyn Powell - Them Thar Hills
During a time when Patti was experiencing severe health issues, she decided that she must put her poems into a collection before she lost any more ability. The book, "Vivisection: A collection of poems" is the product of that labor.
